Whatever happened to the party's middle?
The editors of The Wall Street Journal ask whether the Democratic party has a center any longer. But one could say that the need to ask the question in the first place is answer enough. There are a few Democrats here and there who have not devolved into the pod people of The Angry Left, but sadly they are a rare breed and seem headed towards extinction. Today's Democratic party is made up of people like Michael Moore, Janeane Garofalo, George Soros, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and others like them. As the editors say in this article, The Angry Left has completed a successful takeover of the party. MoveOn.org said it themselves in their open letter when they wrote, "we bought it; we own it." In the long term this leaves the Republicans in a monopoly position because Americans are not going to vote for a socialist party in any great numbers no matter how loudly AirMoonbat screeches that they hate Bush. So if the Democrats want to fix their party, they are going to have to expel The Angry Left sooner or later. So far they show no sign that they have the will or the strength to do so.
