Dick Morris argues in this article that the left wing moonbats have gone off of the deep end in their belief that the terror alert level was raised by the Bush administration as a result of partisan politics. And there is little reason to think that the danger to our nation is less real because The Angry Left is consumed with hate and rage. The threat is real and the Bush administration had to give up valuable intelligence in order to placate the left, which never works anyway, while undermining our ability to get more information. We have only so many sources to squander on the likes of Michael Moore.
Dick Morris blames this on the Republicans who, he says, set the standard in the 90's with their suspicions of Bill Clinton. There is, however, an obvious flaw in his line of reasoning. President Bush is not a liar. Bill Clinton is. The sheer number and frequency of lies which were the normal state of affairs during the Clinton administration were the fault and responsibility of Bill Clinton himself. President Clinton put himself into the position in which no one could rely on his word or anything he said. Thus when people thought he was using foreign policy to distract us from Monica there was objective reason to think so. If he had been a trustworthy President who said what he meant and did not lie, there would have been no reason to be suspicious of his actions.
