Passions on High

We need two parties. Many Democrats don’t seem to realize this.

Michael Novak writes about the response he has received from his recent article, "Why the Dems Will Lose, and why they’ll be disconsolate." Based on the e-mail he has gotten it would seem that his original argument is correct. The Democrats have fallen and they can't get up. They are a party bound up in fantasy, delusion, hate, envy and resentment. This emotional tantrum has become the basis for their very existence and will doom them to minority party status for some time to come, unless they can wake themselves up from their ideological coma. And in some respects Republicans need them. When we don't have any real competition, we tend to get soft and lose our edge. I don't think this has happened yet, but it could if Republicans become convinced that they have nothing to worry about when it comes to the Democratic party. And I would like to continue to see a vibrant and competitive Republican party that remembers what is stands for.
