The Democrats’ “un-American” charge.
Rich Lowry points out in this article that the Democrats have adopted a tactic of calling Republicans un-patriotic. John Ray has argued that this is a form of psychological projection in which the Democrats accuse others of what they themselves actually are. But leaving aside this analysis, one can also say that this is an attempt by the Democrats to change the subject. After all, they don't really want to discuss their record on national defense, because it is not a very good one. The Democrats don't really believe in the use of the military and would rather gut it to pay for social re-distribution than to have to go fight in far off places where they have no voters. And when bad things happen, as they always do when you let things go for a long time, they can always blame those nasty, un-patriotic Republicans.
